David Ray, from Florence, AL, began playing bass at age 13. At 15, he joined his first band, and also began playing in his church youth group. Following award-winning performances in Orlando with the high school jazz band, David began playing upright bass in the high school concert band. After graduating high school, he received a scholarship to the University of Alabama to join the Alabama Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Gerald Welker. At the suggestion of Professor Chris Kozak, David became a Jazz Studies major in 2006. After successful stints in the Jazz Standards Combo and Jazz Ensemble, as well as a senior recital featuring original compositions, David received his Bachelors of Music Performance in 2009.
In addition to his studies, David also performed in multiple local bands throughout college. These groups allowed him to travel and perform in venues all along the east coast. In 2013, he joined the successful touring band CBDB, with whom he performed until 2016. With CBDB, David was able to perform in historic venues and festivals across the country, in states as far as New York and Colorado.
David is available to teach electric and upright bass, any level of proficiency from first time beginner to advanced players.
